FAQ & Feature Overview

How Topside Medics works, what it does for players, and how the Discord bot integrates with your community.

Full transparency - art and assets

I am aware of the controversy around AI-generated art. The art in Topside Medics is AI generated because I am not an artist and I live on a fixed budget. Consider it placeholder art until it becomes financially realistic to commission an artist.

Regardless, I have put countless hours of my own time and effort into building this system, and I hope you can see its value despite the usage of AI art.

What is Topside Medics?

Topside Medics is a community system for Arc Raiders that focuses on revive gameplay. It:

  • Tracks how many revives players perform in their matches
  • Turns those revives into:
    • Ranks
    • Medals
    • Leaderboards
  • Integrates with Discord to reward and track medic gameplay

How does it work for players?

Basic idea

  • Players revive teammates or other players in Arc Raiders as normal.
  • Once per day (during alpha), they can upload a screenshot of the stats screen that shows their revives.

Upload flow and why Discord login is used

  • Log in with Discord so your stats are tied to your account. This keeps things cross-platform so both PC and console players can participate with the same Discord account.
  • When you log in with Discord, Topside Medics receives your Discord user id, username, avatar, banner, and, if Discord has one for your account and you grant permission, your email address. This information is used only to identify your account and link it to your medic profile. Topside Medics does not get your password, messages, or friends list, and you can revoke access at any time from Discord's Authorized Apps page.
  • Upload a full-screen screenshot of your in-game Raider stats screen that shows revives (Raider > Codex > Player Stats).
  • The site reads the revive count and adds it to your total.

A large part of the alpha stage is refining the screenshot reader to be accurate and secure.

Progression

As your total revives climb, you automatically:

  • Rank up through medic tiers
  • Unlock medals at specific revive milestones
  • Build a history of verified medic work over time

Player profile

Each player gets a profile in the system that can show:

  • Username and platform
  • Total revives and verified runs
  • Current rank
  • Earned medals (list to be expanded)

Leaderboards

The website provides:

  • Global top medics (overall rankings)
  • Individual player progress
  • Activity views that can later be used for events or competitions

Goal: Give medics something extra to grind for, celebrate support play, and make being the medic an identity in the Arc Raiders community.

How does the Discord bot work?

When you invite the bot, your server becomes a medic outpost.

The bot can:

  • Link Discord users to their Topside Medics profiles
  • Announce rank ups and new medals in an announcements channel
  • Provide slash commands such as:
    • /profile - shows current rank, medal progress, and total revives.
    • /leaderboard - shows who the top medics are (globally or per outpost, depending on how the feature evolves).

Local vs global

  • Global stats live on the website.
  • Your server gets local flavor:
    • Rank and medal announcements for your members
    • A sense of our medics and our outpost
  • Each participating server is treated as a medic outpost.

How do I invite the bot?

If you want to try it during the alpha, the flow is:

  1. You receive an invite link for the Topside Medics bot.
  2. You click it, choose your server, and authorize the bot.
  3. After joining, the bot:
    • Registers your server as a medic outpost in the system
    • Creates a channel #topside-medics for rank and medal announcements and future global events (in development)
    • Creates its own role, and passive rank roles (no permissions) for medics

Once the bot is in your server, members can:

  • Get automatic rank up and medal announcements in #topside-medics
  • View their own and other members medic profiles with /profile
  • View the leaderboard with /leaderboard
  • (Future) Have your server appear on a Medic Outposts page as an official outpost

What do creators and communities get?

  1. A built-in meta game
    • Who is the top medic this week in our community?
    • Friendly competition around revive counts instead of just kills.
  2. Automatic shoutout moments (OBS / Twitch integration in development)
    • Rank up and medal announcements become natural shoutout points.
    • Call out viewers and thank regulars who always revive.
    • Build recognition around support players.
  3. Cross-platform support
    • Screenshot-based, so it works across PC and console.
    • No special mods or overlays required for players.
  4. No lock-in
    • You control the bot in your server like any other bot.
    • If you ever decide it is not for you, just remove the bot - your Discord setup remains under your control.

Is this still in development?

Yes. Topside Medics is still in active development (alpha). Features may change, there may be bugs, and the screenshot reader is continuously being tuned for accuracy and security.

A karma system is also in development to track helpful vs hostile behavior over time.
